Our association is very fortunate to have a strong networking system in place. APRA’s strength lies in its professionalism and the diverse knowledge and wealth of experience of its membership. APRA is the epi-center and future of the remanufacturing industry and I’m blessed and proud to be a part of it.”

Standley will serve as APRA Chairman through the close of the BIG R Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 31-November 2, 2009.
APRA Announces Availability of New Remanufacturing Report
A new report published by Boston University on the remanufacturing industry examines practices and strategies employed by firms in the industry. Prepared by professors William Hauser and Robert T. Lund, the 11 page report focuses on the business of remanufacturing, the industry dedicated to restoring life to a wide range of durable products, from lubricating oils to locomotives. The report draws on the authors’ decades of study of the industry, and from their database of thousands of remanufacturers, and case studies of successful companies in the industry.

The report, “Remanufacturing: Operating Practices and Strategies,” is the third in a series issued by the authors over the past 12 years. As stated in its Executive Summary, “The report is intended for members of the industry and their suppliers and customers, for students of the industry, and for public policymakers who are interested in promoting the activities of the industry.” Very little has been published about this industry, despite its contributions to the economy in terms of employment, energy and materials conservation, and as an income source for many small to medium-sized firms.

HDRG Annual Summit to be Held in Orlando
The Heavy Duty Remanufacturing Group Summit ‘09 in Orlando, Florida on February 16th will feature an outlook for the reman business by Bruce Plaxton, veteran industry observer and analyst. Bruce is President of BGP Marketing Solutions in Schaumburg, Illinois, a consulting practice with a focus on mobile capital goods. Plaxton has been an advisor to many of the OEM’s, suppliers and aftermarket companies in the industry.
He will focus on the green aspects of the remanufacturing business and how it may be incorporated in to the market planning of remanufacturers. The title of his presentation will be, “Opportunities, Challenges and the GREEN Outlook for the Heavy Duty Remanufacturer.”

There are two shades of “green” according to Plaxton. Justifying a reman business can be aided by the environmental concerns but must also face the ultimate justification of dollars and cents, the other shade of “green.” Plaxton’s keynote address will illustrate some industry trends and concerns and provide a look at where we are heading.
