APRA Electronic & Mechatronic Clinic Scheduled for May 2007 in Toronto

December 6, 2006

CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA - The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association’s (APRA) new Electronics & Mechatronics Division was very active during its first year – hosting two meetings in 2006. Joe Kripli, a division board member remarked, “Automotive electronics and mechatronics are emerging technologies which will practically change all car components and will provide new opportunities for future remanufacturing.” Fernand Weiland, Chairman of the division added, “If current remanufacturers do not embrace this change they will not only miss an opportunity, but may find themselves out of business in the future.”

The objective of the division is to hold regular meetings to discuss and exchange views about the future remanufacturing of these new technologies and focus on specific items like how to deal with the challenge of non-obtainable or obsolete components.

The Electronic & Mechatronic Division has already scheduled their third meeting which will held in Toronto on May 14-15, 2007. There will be presentations from electronic component and core suppliers, the University of Bayreuth in Bayreuth, Germany, OE remanufacturer Delphi Automotive and Blue Streak Electronics, who will also offer a tour of their plant.

Weiland added, “At this event remanufacturers may find future business partners. They will be able to discuss the challenges and solutions for disassembling old electronic controllers and mechatronic actuators, learn how to check and replace electronic components with new units and finally how to test complete units to the required standards of new electronic controllers. The future of remanufacturing is starting at this meeting. Remanufacturers who are ready to look for long-term opportunities should not miss this event.”
