Duxes & APRA sign Strategic Alliance to boost remanufacturing in China and Asia

By John Daly Beijing, China - Fri Mar 13, 2015.

Remanufacturing history was made in Beijing on March the 13th, at the 5th International Remanufacturing Summit, as Duxes and the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) signed a 'Strategic Alliance' to boost remanufacturing in China and Asia. The purpose of the alliance is to advance and promote remanufacturing in Asia, and achieve mutually beneficial results for both APRA and Duxes by utilizing both organizations' advantages.

Duxes has been working in remanufacturing since 2008, to help remanufacturers and OEMs better understand local markets and develop the industry in the Asia-Pacific region. APRA is extremely knowledgeable; many members have long histories in remanufacturing. APRA has done much in terms of lobbying government, educating users and industry. After signing the agreement, James Zhu, Duxes President and Asia-Pacific APRA board member, explained "Remanufacturing first developed in America and Europe; however I believe its future growth and development will be focused in the China and Asia-Pacific Region, with the surging number of vehicles and equipment being used and produced. By utilizing both Duxes' and APRA's advantages, I think we have reached a consensus on the specific steps we need to take to advance remanufacturing in this region in the near future."

Following the signing of the agreement APRA President Joe Kripli explained: "There is no doubt that with the number of cars, trucks and off-highway vehicles entering the Chinese market that China will quickly become the largest consumer and producer of remanufactured products, not only for economic reasons but for environmental and raw material reasons. It is imperative that we support the entire Asia-Pacific region with our expertise and knowledge of remanufacturing."

Duxes and APRA want to promote Chinese and Asian remanufacturing in two aspects: one is at government level, among policy makers and regulators. The second is among the general public by increasing awareness, convincing them of the benefits in choosing reman products, and encouraging them to preferentially procure remanufactured products, "increasing awareness is not enough; consumers must understand the benefits so when they are faced between the choice of a remanufactured and new product, they choose the reman one" said James. The mission of APRA and Duxes via the agreement is to advocate the idea of reman: how environmentally friendly it is, the cost savings in purchasing a high quality level reman product that is as good as new or better than the original, at a fraction of the cost. Furthermore, the alliance will encourage policy makers and government to come to a consensus when advancing reman.

In order to increase awareness in government, educate the general public and further industry knowledge, Duxes will help APRA to increase its membership in Asia and partner with APRA to organize technical training programs and networking activities. "I look forward to working with our partner Duxes and the many new members from the Asia-Pacific region" said Joe. APRA's members have considerable experience and history in reman which is invaluable for Chinese remanufacturers to learn. They will also cooperate to further their media cooperation, building on their current publications Reman Industry Focus and APRA Global Connection.

Any issues raised by members can be compiled when Duxes and APRA conduct their research and reports; then presented to the government. Duxes' close relationship with the National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing, Beijing, and government officials provides an opportunity for new members to influence as well as learn from the government, and ultimately advance remanufacturing in Asia.
