Optimizing Your Remanufacturing Cleaning Process

Presented by Dr. Michael Haselkorn, Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)

Improved cleaning efficiency and less recleaning can be achieved if the proper cleaning process is utilized. This cleaning workshop will review the fundamentals of cleaning for both metallic and plastic components to enable either the selection of the optimum cleaning process or the improvement of currently used cleaning processes.  The workshop will also review newly developed cleaning methods and discuss their advantages and disadvantages compared to the currently used cleaning processes.

Michael Haselkorn, Ph.D., is a Research Faculty for the Golisano Institute for Sustainability a at Rochester Institute of Technology. Responsibilities include material evaluation, developing and demonstrating new cost-effective processes for material salvage.  Prior to coming to Golisano Institute for Sustainability, Dr. Haselkorn worked for Caterpillar developing and implementing remanufacturing processes for heavy duty diesel engine and fuel system components and hydraulic components.
Dr. Haselkorn with over 40 years’ industrial experience in material evaluation, product design and component manufacturing focusing on developing new applications and cost-effective manufacturing methods for ceramic, carbon, high-strength/high-temperature super alloy compositions, stainless and high-strength steels. Experience includes Caterpillar Inc., Textron Specialty Materials, General Electric Aircraft Engine Business Group, and Armco Steel Corporation, and currently holds 30 patents.

Haselkorn earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in ceramic engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and BS in ceramic engineering from Alfred University in Alfred, New York.
